Nearly one in twenty British holidaymakers will return home with a sexually transmitted disease (STD) contracted while on holiday this summer, according to new research.

The survey found that boozy Brits frequently lose their inhibitions on holiday and risk carefree nookie – often with several partners, which is leading to a rise in sexual health nasties being brought home.

Twenty three per cent admitted to having sex with a stranger on holiday and, alarmingly, three per cent of those polled thought they had slept with someone but could not really remember because they were too drunk.

The findings – from a recent OnePoll.com survey commissioned by TravelSpec.com – TravelSpec.com a flight comparison site that supplies cheap flights to Miami, flights to London, flights to Chicago and cheap flights to Paris reveal that the fun starts before the plane touches down with one in three having ambitions to join the mile high club. One in ten men said they had already enjoyed a romp in the plane toilet more than once, while only four per cent of women admitted to getting frisky on a flight.

Brits say booze increases their chances of copping-off with strangers with 35 per cent of respondents getting drunk every night and nearly one in four engaging in sex on the beach. Men are more promiscuous, with 40 per cent admitting to sex on the beach compared to 32 per cent of women.

Commenting on the survey results, TravelSpec.com’s managing director, Rafi Neumann says: “We go on holiday to let our hair down and perhaps do things that we’d never consider at home. It would appear that some holidaymakers are taking this a little too far and coming back with souvenirs they didn’t bargain for.”
